The environment can be better managed to reduce the risk of infection. These include:
- Providing enough space to prevent crowding. Having enough space reduces the concentration of germs in the air and on surfaces
- Avoid intermixing of groups of children with segregated classrooms
- Provide enough easily accessible flushing toilets and sinks so that each group of children can have easy access and use only their own
- Avoid using the floor to change diapers. Using the floor could allow those crawling and or walking in this area to be cross-contaminated
- Choose surfaces that can be easily cleaned and saintised. The best are nonporous, smooth surface. Soft materials should be easy to put into a washing machine and should be washed often.
- Separate food preparation areas from any areas used for another purpose, away from any surfaces involving toileting or diaper changing.
- Make sure that ventilation and air-conditioning system meet current health standards.
- Practice integrated pest management approach that uses least toxic methods to avoid or control pests.
